Team Trek 1212, a competitive group of three mountain climbing friends, was ascending Mt. Blanc in a race against thirteen other teams of three, all vying to be the first to reach the top and win the prize money. They trekked through the snowy rock with one foot ahead of the other, giving it all they had.
“We need a break,” Samantha suggested, and panted, as she tried to take another step.
Luke, the team’s captain ahead of them, grabbed onto the belaying device and rope that connected the three climbers together. “No, we need to keep moving,” he pointed. “Footprints! I’m sure Team Frosted Flakes and The Polar Boys have already passed this point, and we only have about a half-hour jump on Team Winterfell."
“She’s right,” Justin, at the back of the line, agreed as he came to one knee and began to catch his breath. “This is a marathon, Luke. We have plenty of time to make up ground. We’re doing good. Let’s regroup, catch our breaths, and then we’ll put some pep in our step afterward."
“Ugh,” Luke came to a stop and lifted his head in frustration. “You’re kidding, right? There’s two hundred grand riding on this! Do you know how much money that is?! We need to push ourselves. I’m sure we can pump out at least another hour. When we rest, they win.”
“You’ve gone bananas,” Justin criticized as he opened the squeeze bottle to take a sip.
“Money is on the line and so are our lives!” Samantha snapped. “All I have to do is call into base that I quit. One person quits and the team is disqualified. Those are rules, and you know I will do it,” she firmly clinched onto the walkie-talkie.
“You know she’ll do it,” Justin sang, shaking his head. “Just a little pit stop so we can gather ourselves. That’s all we’re asking.”
